Respiratory protection device as an escape apparatus with reciprocating respiration, comprising a chemical cartridge (1) generating oxygen, a respirator bag (3) connected to the chemical cartridge, the chemical cartridge having its inlet opening secured on the top end face of the respirator bag, and a respirator hose (6) with a mouthpiece (7), characterized in that a) the chemical cartridge (1) is situated inside the respirator bag (3) and is wholly sheathed therefrom in such a way the outer surface (A) of the chemical cartridge is surrounded on all sides, when the device is in use, by a free space in the respirator bag, and b) the chemical cartridge is surrounded by a thermally insulating holder (2) in the form of a downwardly open pot, which is situated at the lower end face (3b) of the respirator bag (3) and projecting into it.
