[origin: EP0172802A2] The apparatus and the method comprise a device for measuring the contour of the bezel of the spectacle frames, and a processor, the measuring device comprising members (3, 5) for holding the spectacle frame by the non-sensed contour, and a sensing finger (15) which follows the contour to be measured of the fixed spectacle frame, making it possible to measure the bridge. The processor makes it possible to process the sensing data, and data which can vary from case to case, and can control an operating device which makes it possible to move the lens to be edged with respect to a conventional grinding wheel in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the lens, and an operating device for the relative displacement of the lens with respect to the said grinding wheel, in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the lens.
