A process for one-bath reductive and oxidative bleaching of wool in an aqueous liquor, wherein,in an aqueous bath containing buffer substances, complex formers, hydrogen peroxide activators and, if required, optical brighteners, reductive bleaching is carried out with a sulfinic acid-donating compound as a strong reductive bleach at a pH of from 5.0 to 8.0 during the heating phase from 30 to 908C, and thereafter, oxidative bleaching is carried out in the same bath at from 60 to 1008C in the course of from 15 to 90 minutes by adding hydrogen peroxide.
