[origin: US4673585A] Process for the preparation of the surface of a uranium or uranium alloy part. It comprises a stage of chemically etching the surface of the uranium or uranium alloy part by means of a solution of nickel chloride and hydrochloric acid. The etching solution may also contain hydrofluoric acid. The nickel-coated uranium or uranium alloy parts can be used as shielding or ballasting members in a marine atmosphere.

L'invention a pour objet un procédé de préparation de la surface de pièces en uranium ou en alliage à base d'uranium. Ce procédé comprend une étape d'attaque chimique de la surface de la pièce en uranium ou en alliage d'uranium au moyen d'une solution de chlorure de nickel et d'acide chlorhydrique contenant par exemple de 600 à 700 g.1<->¹ de NiCl2 et de 1,8 à 2,2 mol.1<->¹ de HCl. Des revêtements de nickel effectués par nickelage chimique peuvent ensuite être déposés sur les pièces ainsi traitées.
