[origin: US4643116A] A sewing machine presser foot with a shank and a sole plate wherein the shank carries at its lower end a spherical portion extending into a complementary socket of the sole plate so that the latter is free to swivel about several intersecting axes which pass through the center of the spherical portion. A U-shaped spring couples the sole plate to the shank and limits the extent of movability of the sole plate with reference to the shank, either alone or by cooperating with two transversely extending stubs which are provided on the shank at the opposite sides of the spherical portion and extend, with freedom of vertical movement, into slots which are machined into two lateral walls of the sole plate.
