Anhydride group-free, aliphatic, unsaturated sizing agents which contain a single N-C6-C22-alk(en)ylamide group or C6-C22-alk(en)yl ester group as hydrophobic substituent and have at least one anionic group, in particular N-C6-C22-alk(en)ylmonoamides or C6-C22-alk(en)yl monoesters of an aliphatic, unsaturated C2-C6-dicarboxylic acid, or salts thereof - some of the sizing agents being new compounds - are particularly highly suitable for use together with commercial retention aids in a process for pulp sizing paper or board at a fibre suspension pH of at least 6.5 in the presence of, for example, aluminium sulphate or in a process for surface sizing paper.

Anhydridgruppenfreie, aliphatische, ungesättigte Leimungsmittel, welche zum Teil bekannte und zum Teil neue Verbindungen darstellen, die eine einzige N-C6-C22-Alk(en)ylamidgruppe oder C6-C22-Alk(en)yl-estergruppe als hydrophoben Substituenten und mindestens eine anionische Gruppe aufweisen, insbesondere N-C6-C22-Alk(en)ylhalbamide oder C6-C22-Alk(en)ylhalbester einer aliphatischen, ungesättigten C2-C6-Dicarbonsäure, oder deren Salze eignen sich besonders gut dazu, zusammen mit handelsüblichen Retentionsmitteln in einem Verfahren zur Massenleimung von Papier oder Karton bei einem pH-Wert von mindestens 6,5 der Faserstoffsuspension in Abwesenheit von z.B. Aluminiumsulfat oder in einem Verfahren zur Oberflächenleimung von Papier eingesetzt zu werden.
