[origin: US4594567A] A blow open contact arm assembly is provided for a molded case circuit breaker. A ferromagnetic carrier is attached to the movable contact arm and is positioned thereabout for creating a magnetic field about the movable contact arm which attracts the contact arm to the open position during severe fault conditions. The molded case housing has reinforced walls to withstand the pressures exerted on the walls of the houses during a blow open operation of the contacts.

Eine Kontaktanordnung (12) für einen Niederspannungs- Leistungsschalter weist zwei zusammenwirkende Kontaktarme auf, von denen der bewegbare Kontaktarm 16 an einem als ferromagnetisches Joch ausgebildeten Träger (18) schwenkbar angebracht ist. Der Träger (18) ist entsprechend einem zur stromabhängigen Trennung der Kontaktarme vorgesehenen Schwenkwinkel des Kontaktarmes (16) bemessen. Ferner ist der Träger mit einer Kurvenbahn (31) für an dem Kontaktarm (16) angebrachte Rollen (40) versehen, die den Bewegungsablauf des Kontaktarmes (16) unter dem Einfluß hoher Fehlerströme steuert. Die Kontaktanordnung (12) erlaubt den Bau von Leistungsschaltern mit hoher Strombegrenzung, insbesondere in Verbindung mit einer schleifenförmigen Gestaltung der Strombahn zwischen dem feststehenden und dem bewegbaren Kontaktarm (14, 16).
