1. System for the making of cigarettes by the consumer himself using a prefabricated product (1, fig. 1 through 7; 41, fig. 10) not smokable as such in the form of an industrially prefabricated sheathed or enveloped tobacco skein comprising a skein sheath (3, fig. 1-7; 43, fig. 10) of a combustible and smokable material, in particular a thin cigarette paper, adapted in its diameter to the cigarette paper shell (5, fig. 1-3; 19, fig. 7; 42, fig. 10) of the finished cigarette and having a skein-like tobacco filling (4) corresponding to a respective cigarette portion, the non-smokability of the prefabricated product being ensured by a perforation (7; 47) of the skein sheath, said prefabricated product (1) being formed with a slightly smaller diameter (d1 , fig. 3a) than the cigarette paper shell (5) of the finished cigarette, and the skein sheath, after introduction of the prefabricated product into the cigarette paper shell, remaining in the latter and forming together therewith the envelope or shell of the finished cigarette, characterized in that by forming the perforation (7) of the skein sheath (3) as a linear array of closely adjacent perforation openings, the prefabricated product (1) is provided with a slight subsequent variability of its diameter (d2 and d3 , fig. 3b and 3c) by the user.
