Abstract (en)
The composing apparatus contains a composing rail (3) which has a resting surface (30), extending along the rail, and a leaning surface (32) for the letters (1) which is essentially perpendicular to the resting surface. The letters (1) consist of thin-walled transparent plates which bear a positive print character (20) with spacing from a foot edge. The alignment of the typesetting is guaranteed by setting up the letters (1) on the flat resting surface (30). The triangular or trapezoidal shape of the contour of the letters is selected such that they overlap in an imbricated manner in the line and can therefore easily be displaced relative to one another without the risk of mutual tilting. The parts which have been set can be fixed against inadvertent displacement on the composing rail by several pressing devices (48). The finished type-set line is transferred photographically by transmitted light onto a type-setting film, from which the desired type-set prints can be produced by enlargement or reduction. <IMAGE>
