[origin: US4639303A] In this electrolysis apparatus for the preparation of chlorine from aqueous alkali halide solutions, which comprises at least one electrolytic cell, the anode and gas diffusion cathode are disposed horizontally and separated from each other by a partition in a housing consisting of two half shells and are connected mechanically and in an electrically conducting manner by means of their edges to the respective half shells. In addition, the cathode is connected in a liquid-tight manner to its half shell and is supported by a current supply and distribution device. The partition is clamped between a circumferential seal between the edges of the half shell and a frame and is supported on a spacer which rests on the cathode and is held by the frame. Bei diesem Elektrolyseapparat zur Herstellung von Chlor aus wäßrigen Alkalihalogenidlösungen, der mindestens eine Elektrolysezelle aufweist, sind die Anode (3) und Gasdiffusionskathode (11) horizontal und durch eine Trennwand (15) voneinander getrennt in einem Gehäuse aus zwei Halbschalen (1, 8) eingeordnet und über ihre Ränder mit den jeweiligen Halbschalen mechanisch und elektrisch leitend verbunden. Darüber hinaus ist die Kathode (11) flüssigkeitsdicht mit ihrer Halbschale verbunden und wird durch eine Stromzufuhr und Verteileinrichtung (10) unterstützt. Die Trennwand (15) ist zwischen einer zwischen den Rändern der Halbschalen umlaufenden Dichtung (16) und einem Rahmen (17) eingeklemmt und stützt sich auf einen Abstandshalter (21) ab, der auf der Kathode (11) aufliegt und durch den Rahmen gehalten wird. Der Rahmen (17) weist einen Zu- (18) und Ablauf (19) für den Katholyten auf.
