Abstract (en)

1. An apparatus for handling a railway-track switch panel (A) by grasping and tilting it from its position on the ground up to an oblique position within the transverse gauge of the track and vice versa for the laying thereof and the depositing and transporting thereof on a suitable rail vehicle, and comprising a support (1) having a resting shoe (3) intended to be placed on the ballast in position extending in the transverse direction of the track below the level of the base of the rails of the panel, a column (4) attached to the shoe (3) and intended to be set up on a side of the panel, and a carriage (7) mounted for sliding and adjustable in height along the column (4) by means of a driving member (26), a horizontal pivot pin (8) parallel to the track and borne by the carriage (7), a carrier arm (9) extending in the transverse direction of the track and articulated at one end to the pivot pin (8), at least two rail hooking members (17, 18) mounted on the carrier arm (9) grasping the panel, and a driving member (23) for tilting the carrier arm (9) by pivoting around the pivot pin (8), the support (1) having two first lateral props (28) which are independent of at least one resting shoe (3), are displaceable and adjustable in height by means of two jacks (29), are arranged on this side of the resting shoe (3) in the transverse direction of the track, are spaced on both sides from the resting shoe (3) in the longitudinal direction of the track and are intended to rest on the ballast, the resting shoe (3) being articulated around a vertical pivot pin (5, 50) which is integral with the column (4) of the support (1) and being driven in rotation in a horizontal plane by a driving member (32) from its transverse position up to a position parallel to the track and vice versa, said shoe (3) being shifted substantially by half a tie spacing with respect to the plumb line of the carrier arm (9) in its position transverse to the track, the driving member for the tilting of the carrier arm being a piston-cylinder unit (23) established in combination with the carriage (7) to permit the locking of said arm (9) in position parallel to the ballast platform supporting the panel, and the carrier arm (9) comprising at its end opposite the horizontal pivot pin (8) a third lateral prop (30) which is displaceable and adjustable in height by means of a piston-cylinder unit (31) and intended to rest against the ballast opposite the first two props, between two ties of the panel.
