Protective helmet having a hard external shell (1), a shock-absorbing insert calotte (2) provided with a boss layer (4) of plastic applied to a shock-absorbing calotte body (3), the bosses (5) of said boss layer engaging the external shell (1) point-like and being destroyed when subjected to strong pressure, characterized in that the boss layer (4) consists of such a material that the shock-absorbing effect of the boss layer (4) subject to the strong pressure is only provided by a plastical deformation of the bosses (5).
