[origin: EP0184551A1] The apparatus for making gypsum building plates (44) by the dry process, i.e. for making a mixture of calcined gypsum, a light filler and from 100 to 200% of the stoichiometrically necessary quantity of water for hardening the gypsum, possesses upper pressure rams (40), lower pressure rams (38) and a moulding box (16) in which the pressure rams act in opposite directions on the gypsum composition. The moulding box (16) possesses a drive (12, 14) so that it can be moved independently of the pressure rams (38, 40), the lower pressure rams being stationary. The mould is sprayed to saturation with water before the gypsum composition is introduced. The gypsum plates, which are pressed in approximately one minute, are as good as or better than the conventional plates produced by the wet process, can be used even after a short period, and are much less expensive. <IMAGE>
