[origin: EP0185817A1] The comprises a stationary housing (13), an electric motor (22) mounted in the housing (13). a gearing unit (23) of profile shifted type operatively connected to the motor (22), a rotator (21) operatively connected to output shaft (36) of the gearing unit (23), and a shaft-locking and unlocking bar (18) co-operable with steering shaft (10). <??>The output shaft (36) is provided with one or more magnets (25) embedded therein or mounted thereon. Its casing (24), on the other hand. is provided with one or more magnetically responsive switches (3,11, 35) which are connected to an electronic control circuit adapted for control of the locking and unlocking movement of the bar (10). The position of the output shaft (36) and thus of the bar (18) is reliably sensed by the magnetic means which is not liable to moisture damage.
