Cargo vessel which can be adapted for the transporting of containers and having at least one cargo hold ; a) to which access is possible through a hatch in the weather deck, of which the opening area is smaller than at least one stowing area in a parallel plane disposed therebeneath ; b) and in which vertical guides for containers are so arranged for being horizontally displaceable that,for container freight, they can be arranged in an operating position below the hatch, but, for other freight, they can be arranged in a stowing position near the wall of the cargo hold outside the hatch region, characterized in that the vertical guides (6) are fixed in a weight-supporting manner and with the aid of extension means (7) on the wall (2) of the hold (1) and are able to be extended from the stowing position into the working position.
