Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8600418A1] To control the charge state of rechargeable batteries, a reference value corresponding to a precise charge state is stored in a memory. The voltage across the terminals, the current intensity and the time duration are measured during each charge and discharge cycle of the battery and transformed, taking into account the current direction, into a magnitude corresponding to the quantity of energy which has been supplied, respectively used. From the stored reference value, instant values of the charge state are calculated by using said magnitude. The characteristic curve of the voltage response across the terminals during the charging and the discharging is used to minimize the deviations of measurement values of the effective charge state of the battery under control, by controlling the speed with which the voltage across the terminals changes during the charge and discharge cycle, by determining, after one relatively regular and low voltage modification speed, at least one point in time where a more important voltage modification rate occurs and by balancing the instant value of the charge state coulometrically detected at this point in time with the predetermined reference value.
