[origin: EP0189140A2] It is known to use in display device controls image refresh buffers, the cells of which are each allocated to one pixel, to read out these buffers synchronously to the scanning of the screen of the display device and to decode the readout signals in a colour table. It is also known to encode characters to be displayed as character signals which are decoded in a character generator for displaying the character. The output signals of the character generator (ZG) are entered into the first positions of the cells of the image refresh buffer (BWSP) and attribute signals are entered into further positions, the attribute signals being identical for pixels located within one character field.
