[origin: WO8505459A1] Apparatus for the optical quench of a sample (10) including a photodetector (12, 14), means for positioning the sample in an operative relationship with the photodetector, and a liquid crystal light valve (15) disposed between the sample and the photodetector when the sample is in the operative relationship. The light transmission characteristics of the liquid crystal light valve are varied in response to an attenuation signal generated by a power supply. The apparatus may further include means responsive to the photodetector means for generating a control signal and the power supply means may further be responsive to the control signal for varying the attenuation signal with respect thereto.

Appareil pour inhiber optiquement un échantillon (10), comprenant un photodétecteur (12, 14), un dispositif pour placer le dispositif en une position opérationnelle par rapport au photodétecteur, et un relais optique à cristaux liquides (15) placé entre l'échantillon et le photodétecteur lorsque l'échantillon est en relation opérationnelle. Les caractéristiques de transmission de lumière du relais optique à cristaux liquides varient en réponse à un signal d'atténuation produit par un dispositif d'alimentation. L'appareil peut en outre inclure des dispositifs sensibles au photodétecteur pour produire un signal de commande, et le dispositif d'alimentation peut en outre être sensible au signal de commande pour faire varier le signal d'atténuation en fonction de celui-ci.
