A support element, particularly a seat or back rest, comprising on the one hand two bearing surfaces, viz. an upper bearing surface (1) and a lower bearing surface (2), each consisting of a sheet substantially in a quadrilateral form and, on the other, connecting means (3, 4) interposed between these two bearing surfaces, the upper bearing surface (1) and lower bearing surface (2), in order to maintain them at a distance from each other while rendering them rigid with each other, characterised in that two of the opposite edges (1a and 1b ) of the upper bearing surface (1) and the corresponding two opposite edges (2a and 2b ) of the lower bearing surface (2) are so curved as to exhibit respectively inverted concavities.
