1. An apparatus (1) for shredding waste paper and like materials capable of being torn, by means of a rotor (6) which rotates with a horizontal axis inside a housing (2) and on the circumference of which, swinging beater knives (11) are disposed eccentrically to the rotor axis, which beater knives co-operate, along their beating circle, with a plurality of transverse rows of counterknives supported at the housing side and form a shredding path leading from an input region (4) to a discharge region (5), characterized in that the counterknives (18 to 25, 35 to 38) are adapted, at least in a region preceding the discharge region (5), to the rotational profile region defined by the beater knives (11) and rotor (6) except for a motion gap (39) precluding mutual contact, and in that the discharge region comprises an opening region (32) which cannot be covered.

Eine Vorrichtung zum Zerkleinern von Altpapier u. dgl. zerreißbaren Materialien nach dem Bauprinzip herkömmlicher Hammermühlen mit einem schnellaufenden Rotor (6) vermeidet bei der Feinzerkleinerung der Materialien Staub- und Windbelastungen und erhöht den Wirkungsgrad der Vorrichtung (1) durch eine zumindest teilweise, vorzugsweise stufenweise an das Rotationsprofil der Schlagmesser (11) angepaßte Konturierung der Gegenmesser (18 bis 25) und eine im Zerkleinerungspfad nachfolgend unabdeckbar freigehaltene Auswurföffnung (32).
