[origin: WO8604640A1] A device enabling to eliminate the soot or the like from exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, particularly a diesel engine, comprises a microwave source (18) coupled to an intermediate part of the exhaust gas pipe (15), which intermediate part is designed to generate an electromagnetic field. To obtain an efficient combustion of the soot with a reduced hydraulic resistance, the intermediate part is designed as a resonant cavity (1) and is provided at the inlet (6) and outlet (8) of exhaust gases respectively with a metal grid (14). Furthermore, an insert (5) of dielectric material provided in the resonant cavity (1) concentrates the exhaust gas flow in the region of higher energy density of the electromagnetic field.

Eine Vorrichtung zum Beseitigen von Ruß oder dgl. aus den Abgasen einer Brennkraftmaschine, insbesondere einer Diesel-Brennkraftmaschine, umfaßt eine Mikrowellen-Quelle (18), die an ein zur Ausbildung eines elektromagnetischen Feldes geeignet ausgebildetes Zwischenstück der Abgasleitung (15) angekoppelt ist. Zur Erzielung einer wirksamen Verbrennung des Rußes bei geringem Strömungswiderstand ist das Zwischenstück als Hohlraumresonator (1) ausgebildet und an seinem Abgaseinlaß (6) und Abgasauslaß (8) jeweils mit einem Metallgitter (14) ausgerüstet, wobei ferner ein Einsatz (5) aus dielektrischem Material im Hohlraumresonator (1) die Abgasströmung in den Bereich großer Energiedichte des elektromagnetischen Feldes konzentriert.
