Abstract (en)

1. Cracking-off, smoothing, bevelling and polishing machine with automatic charging, comprising a rotatable gripping head (3) intended to grip a glass (4) by its base and to set it into rotation, means for presenting this gripping head and this rotating glass to two above-mentioned grinding or polishing elements (7, 8) adapted to travel in the opposite direction and drivable by floating motors (9) and which are constantly remote from one another and are arranged symmetrically and in a secant fashion relative to the direction of application of a rim of said glass (4), these elements (7, 8) also being situated in the same plane substantially perpendicular to this direction in the free state on the one hand and adapted to be slightly flexed by their contact with the rim of the glass along diametrically opposed portions of this rim during the smoothing operation on the other hand, characterised in that the polishing elements (7, 8) are constituted by a rotatable abrasive disc having a diameter of from 100 to 300 mm and having as core a sheet of spring steel (10) in the form of a plate having a thickness of from 0.5 to 3 mm which is mechanically shaped so as to have an inclined edge (13).
