[origin: EP0194837A2] The system has a motor terminal box (2) secured to the exterior of a pipe (1) which may be anywhere between 10 and 40 inches in diameter. A squirrel cage induction motor (4) is located coaxially in the pipe on support webs (7) with the flow of gas taking place through the annular space (8) between the motor and the pipe. The motor rotor (13) is supported on bearings (9,10) supplied with oil, from a reservoir, by a pump (11) on downstream end of the motor shaft. Upstream, the motor shaft extension carries the rotor of a multi-stage axial compressor (14) on a thrust bearing (15) and front bearing (16). If required, a gearbox may be interposed between motor and compressor.
