[origin: EP0195210A2] In a heat transfer printing device a sheet-like recording carrier (20) and a band-shaped dye carrier (12) bearing a heat-activatable dye are fed between a printing roller (22) and a heating head (14) which carries a number of heating elements (18) which can be activated by a control circuit (24). In order to reduce the consumption of the dye carrier (12) a positioning device (32, 34) is provided which during the forward feed of the recording carrier (20) can be actuated as the process requires by the control unit (24) as a function of the actuation of the heating elements (18). <IMAGE>
