Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0195981A2] The invention relates to a printing mechanism (2) with a print hammer bar (8) as platen backing extending in the print line direction and a printing head (6) in a printer housing (4). The printing head (6) can not be brought down or lifted off in the direction vertical to the imprint plane. The print hammer bar (8) is firmly attached to a support (18) and the support (18) is adjustable vertically to the imprint plane. Furthermore, a transport roller (10) connected to a drive is mounted on the support, which can be brought down onto a counter-roller (16) precisely aligned relative to the printing head. In addition to its transport function, the transport roller (10) also has the task of measuring the thickness of the recording carrier lying between the transport roller (10) and the counter-roller (16) and of controlling the distance or the applied pressure between the print hammer bar (8) and the printing head (6). To this end, the transport roller is arranged to be capable of displacement by way of example in the bringing-down direction against the force of a pressure spring (28). A control mechanism is provided by means of which a pre-determined position of the transport roller (10) relative to the support (18) is established at which the pressure spring exerts a pre-determined pressure and the imprint gap or the pressure between the printing head (6) and the print hammer bar (8) is of the required magnitude. <IMAGE>
