A driving system for a laterally oscillating working element of a printing machine, particularly for a doctor blade carriage accommodating a doctor blade, with a shifting drive mechanism (14) acting on an associated connecting piece (carriage 7) and converting a rotary movement into a laterally vibrating oscillation movement, having an element (spindle 16) driven in the sense of rotation and an axially oscillating element (bushing 18) in positive locking mesh therewith and linked without of rotating and shifting with the connecting piece, characterized in that the element (spindle 16) driven in the sense or rotation of the shifting drive mechanism (14) is arranged with a free shifting dimension in axial direction and supported with a free turning dimension in an element (hollow shaft 41) oscillating in axial direction of an adjusting drive mechanism (40), also converting a turning movement into an oscillating movement and driven at a speed lower than that of the shifting drive mechanism (14).
