[origin: US4630014A] A stationary contact assembly is provided for a current limiting circuit breaker. The contact assembly includes a curved input arm which has a contact fastened thereon and a generally straight output arm which also has a contact fastened thereon and which has an opening for receiving the contact end of the input arm. The contacts are encapsulated in an insulating material which separates the contact arms from each other. A magnetic element is also embedded in the encapsulation material between the input and output contact arms. As current flows through the contact arms, a field is developed about the magnetic element which draws in an armature which reduces the opening force of the contacts.

Eine feststehende Kontaktanordnung (12) für eine strombegrenzende Schalteinheit (10) enthält einen gekrümmten Eingangsarm (20), der einen daran befestigten Kontakt (24) aufweist sowie einen im wesentlichen geraden Ausgangsarm (22), der gleichfalls einen daran befestigten Kontakt (26) besitzt und der eine Öffnung (34) zur Aufnahme des kontaktgebenden Endes des Eingangsarmes (20) aufweist. Die Kontaktarme (20, 22) sind in ein isolierendes Kapselungsmaterial (29) eingebettet, das die Kontaktarme (20, 22) voneinander trennt. Ein magnetisches Element (30) ist ebenfalls in das Einkapselungsmaterial (28) zwischen dem Eingangsarm (20) und dem Ausgangsarm (22) eingebettet. Beim Fießen des Stromes durch die Kontaktarme (20, 22) wird ein Magnetfeld um das magnetische Element (20) herum erzeugt, das einen Anker (36; 38) anzieht und die Öffnungskraft einer mit der feststehenden Kontaktanordnung (10) zusammenwirkenden Kontaktbrückenanordnung (14) verringert. Die beschriebene Kontaktanordnung (12) eignet sich zur Strombegrenzung in Verbindung mit einem Niederspannungs-Leistungsschalter und kann als gesonderte Schalteinheit mit einem Leistungsschalter in Reihe geschaltet werden oder kann integraler Bestandteil eines Leistungsschalters sein.
