A printing press roller (10) is surface-treated by applying one or more adhesion-promoting, corrosion-resistant or wear-resistant layers (21, 24) by the plasma-spraying process to the running surface of the roller (10). Ein Verfahren dient zur Oberflächenbehandlung eines Druckmaschinenzylinders (10), bei dem auf die Lauffläche des Zylinders (10) eine oder mehrere haftvermittelnde, korrosionsbeständige oder abriebfeste Schichten (21, 24) im Plasmasprüh-Verfahren aufgebracht werden. Um die Papierlaufeigenschaften zu verbessern, werden fein verteilte Vertiefungen (32) in die jeweils äußerste Schicht (24) eingeschmolzen.
