Abstract (en)

1. Self-releasing jaws for a safety ski binding comprising a base plate (7) non-rotatable mounted on a ski, a housing (3) mounted on a bearing block (2) for pivoting about a transverse axis (32), said housing being provided with retaining means for retaining a boot (5), and at least one release spring (6) disposed within said bearing block (2), the latter being mounted on said base plate (1) for rotation in a horizontal plane about an upright axis (pivot bolt 18) and prevented from thus rotating by a detent device (16, 19) consisting of two components, namely, a cam roller (16) and a cam guide (19), one such component being mounted on said base plate (1) while the other component is displaceable against the force of said release spring (6), said housing (3) being retained in the skiing position by a pivotal detent member (8) mounted on said bearing block (2) for movement about a pivot axis (46) in a vertical plane, in which position said housing (3) retains said boot (5) by means of its retaining means, said pivotal detent member (8) being provided with a detent surface (8a) adapted in the skiing position to be biased into engagement with a detent bolt (10) secured to said housing by the force of said release spring (6), means being provided to oppose the force of said release spring (6) for reducing the release force in the vertical direction, and to additionally exert a force in the horizontal direction, characterized in that said pivotal detent member (8) is composed of two parts (81, 82) aligned parallel to one another and being pivotally connected to said pivot axis (46) at their lower end portions, in that a pivot member (11, 111, 211) of U-shaped configuration as seen in top plan view is pivotally connected at the upper portions of its two arms (21) to a bolt (13) passing through an upper portion of said pivotal detent member (8), said pivot member being disposed between said release spring (6) and said pivotal detent member (8), the cross member (22) of said U-shaped pivot member (11, 111, 211) having a portion extending in the direction towards the base plane of said bearing block (2), in that said pivot member (11, 111, 211) is supported on said release spring (6) by the upper end portion of its cross member (22) to prevent vertical pivoting of said housing (3), in that one component of said detent means (16, 19) is located adjacent the lower end portion of said pivot member (11, 111, 211), the lower end portion of said cross member (22) being supported on said release spring (6) for preventing horizontal pivoting of said bearing block (2), and in that said bearing block (2) is optionally mounted on a plate (17) mounted for rotation about said upright axis (pivot bolt 18).
