[origin: US4924144A] Matrix screen, its production process and matrix display means with several tones, controlled on an all or nothing basis and incorporating said screen. The screen has electroluminescent zones distributed in matrix-like manner and placed between crossing row electrodes and column electrodes, each row electrode being formed from m first parallel conductive strips of different widths and each column electrode being formed from n second parallel conductive strips of different widths, m and n being positive integers, whereof at least one is 2. The electroluminescent zones are defined by the intersection of the first and second conductive strips. Application to half-tone display using electrical addressing circuits operating on an all or nothing basis.

L'écran comporte des zones (10, 12) électroluminescentes réparties en matrice et intercalées entre des électrodes-lignes (i) et des électrodes-colonnes (j) croisées, chaque électrode-ligne (i) étant formée de m premières bandes conductrices parallèles (3) de largeurs différentes et chaque électrode-colonne (j) étant formée de n secondes bandes conductrices parallèles (4, 6) de largeurs différentes, m et n étant des entiers positifs dont l'un au moins est 2. Les zones électroluminescentes (10, 12) sont définies par le croisement des premières (3) et des secondes (4, 6) bandes conductrices. Application à l'affichage en demi-teintes au moyen de circuits électriques d'adressage fonctionnant en "tout ou rien".
