A device for mounting an element (5) on a panel (2) of a box (1) comprising two panels (2, 3) joined by a lateral wall (4) and in particular, a locking element on a vehicle door panel, this element passing through the panel and cooperating with a cut out base plate (9) adapted for sliding along the internal face of the panel between a position for securing the element and a position for releasing this latter, an opening (18) being arranged in the lateral wall, allowing a member (20) for actuating the base plate to pass, characterised in that the base plate (9) is slidably mounted along the internal panel face and that provision is made for connecting means (17) on the base plate opposite the said opening (18) for cooperating with the said actuating member (20).
