An oil burner having a burner nozzle (5) directed into a flame chamber (15) which is disposed before the burner nozzle (5), has around it a ceramic jacket (KF) formed with an end-face aperture (12) and has a capillary inner layer, characterised in that the ceramic material (KF) is completely porous and is produced in an open-pore structure with a porosity of 10 to 50 ppi by an open-cell foam blank being enveloped in a ceramic substance and subsequently fired.
