[origin: US4730473A] A method and apparatus for rolling tubes into tube plates, especially heat exchangers, with a tube roller. Prior to the rolling process, the desired holding expansion value is set, and during the rolling process the holding expansion is measured. When the preset expansion value is reached, the expansion is discontinued. The magnitude of the holding expansion is determined by ultrasonically measuring the changing thickness of the wall of the tube during the expansion. The apparatus includes a tube roller that is operated by a drive mechanism. Also provided is a roll controller that can be set to the desired holding expansion value. An ultrasonic measuring head is provided in the tube roller, and is connected with the roll controller.

Bei einem Verfahren zum Einwalzen von Rohren in Rohrböden, insbesondere Wärmetauschern, mit einer Rohrwalze, bei dem vor dem Einwalzen der gewünschte Haftaufweitungswert eingestellt wird und während des Einwalzens die Haftaufweitung gemessen und bei Erreichung des vorgegebenen Wertes die Aufweitung eingestellt wird, ist vorgesehen, daß die Größe der Haftaufweitung über eine Ultraschallmessung der sich ändernden Dicke der Rohrwand während der Aufweitung bestimmt wird. Dabei ist die Vorrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens mit einer durch eine Antriebsmaschine (8) angetriebenen Rohrwalze (1) und einem Einwalzcontroller (13), an dem der gewünschte Haftaufweitungswert einstellbar ist, versehen und erfindungsgemäß dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß in der Rohrwalze (1) ein Ultraschallmeßkopf (9) vorgesehen ist, der mit dem Einwalzcontroller (13) verbunden ist.
