Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0212231A2] An operating device is proposed for a switch, particularly on a portable machine tool, which permits handling without fatigue, as a so-called dead man's switch. In the switched-on position of an operating device (8), a supporting wall (18) of this operating device (8) is supported on an oblique ramp (17). Perpendicular to the direction of action of the return spring (4), the operating end thus has to absorb only the resulting component of the force of this return spring (4) by reduced friction losses on the ramp (17). The ramp (17) and the latching opening (14) on the guide (1) for the operating device (8) and the supporting wall (18), and the frangible latching tab (15) on the operating device (8) allow a double use without costly storage requirements. With the latching tab (15), the operating device is one which tips into a latched position in the direction of the switching-on movement, in which latched position it is held until it is randomly released by the return spring (4). After the prepared breaking-off of the latching tab (15), the operating device is one which can be held in the switched-on position with a small retention force and nevertheless returns immediately into the switched-off position when the retention force is absent. <IMAGE>
