Primary suspension for rail vehicles, in which each axle-box housing (1) has supporting arms (2, 3) on both sides in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and there are in each case between these supporting arms and the bogie frame or the vehicle body on the one side, a spring (4) which is soft in the vertical suspension mode and on the other side, an elastomeric spring (5) incorporated for its spring properties in the horizontal mode, in which arrangement a layer of elastomeric material lies between non-level areas, characterised in that the elastomeric spring (5) has at least one layer (8) of elastomeric material designed in the shape of a part-spherical shell, which is arranged symmetrically to the vertical direction between metal parts (6, 7) having part-spherical surfaces with substantially the same centre points, as well as in addition a further layer (10) of elastomeric material, which has a level zone lying in a horizontal direction, or is designed in the shape of a trough with trough axis lying in a horizontal direction.
