[origin: WO8605283A1] A liquid crystal display in which the cell has a uniform thickness of the order of 1 mu m. The uniform thickness of the cell is controlled by means of an array of pillars (14) located between the electrodes on the glass back plate (10). The pillars comprise a material (e.g., polyimide) which adheres to both plates, thus reducing the tendency of the plates to bow.

Dans un affichage à cristaux liquides, la cellule a une épaisseur uniforme de l'ordre d'1mum. L'épaisseur uniforme de la cellule est maintenue par une rangée de piliers (14) situés entre les électrodes, sur la contre-plaque en verre (10). Les piliers sont composés d'un matériau (du polyimide par exemple) qui adhère aux deux plaques, en diminuant ainsi la tendance des plaques à se courber.
