Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0213383A1] 1. Method for monitoring the operation of optical smoke detectors in a fire alarm system operated according to the pulse signalling principe, in which fire alarm system the individual detectors, possibly of different kinds, such as ionisation, heat and optical smoke detectors, on a signalling line are respectively interrogated from the central processing unit in respect of their test values, evaluated in the central processing unit and alarm and fault criteria are derived, the individual detectors, which have a corresponding receiving device, being actuable by means of a control instruction from the central processing unit, characterized in that, during manufacture of the optical smole detectors (RM), they are tuned to issue, in the event of the absence of back scattering, a certain test signal, which differs from the rest signal and from the alarm signal, in that the optical smoke detectors have the receiving device for the control instruction, in that, at predeterminable time intervals, the optical transmission device of the smoke detector having a phototransmitter (LED), a test chamber (MK) and an optical receiver (FD) can be changed in a predeterminable manner by means of the control instruction so that the relevant smoke detector issues the particular, preset test signal, and in that the test value interrogated as a result of this, which corresponds to the particular test signal, is recognised in the central processing unit as a function signal and the absence of the function signal is indicated as a fault.
