A rail vehicle including a device providing easy access to the vehicle during station stops, the device comprising a ramp (30) designed to be received beneath the floor of the vehicle while the vehicle is running and to be rested on a platform (1) during a station stop, and a guide and drive mechanism for the ramp situated beneath the vehicle floor, the vehicle being characterized in that the device comprises a sill (20) articulated between two extreme positions, namely a horizontal position while the vehicle is running thus constituting a portion of the floor (12) of the vehicle, and a sloping position constituting together with a portion (32) of the ramp (30) which is likewise sloping a continuous ramp providing access to the vehicle.
