[origin: EP0218575A2] The invention relates to a screening device having a grate which has a plurality of grate bars (11) which are connected by means of flexible screening elements (3) which are attached to them and span the gaps between the grate bars, and brings about the solution of the two objects, on the one hand of increasing the screening yield and on the other hand of compensating to a large extent the inertial forces within the grate. This is achieved in that the grate bars (11) are mounted so as to be movable in a frame (1) in a plurality of directions, preferably in two mutually opposed directions in a plane perpendicular to their longitudinal axes and are individually provided at both of their ends with a drive (18, 19, 24; 31, 35) which sets them in motion. In this arrangement, the grate bars (11) can be resiliently mounted in the frame (1) and the drives can be unbalanced drives (18, 19, 24; 38), or the grate bars are mounted on both sides on rotating eccentrics (31) and prevented from rotating about their longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>
