Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0219667A1] 1. A fuel injection system for a diesel engine, the system having : a fuel-injection pump (1), having a plunger (2, 2a) driven by a camshaft (6) and delivering fuel to a pump chamber (7) ; an inlet valve (11) determining the start of pump delivery ; and a leak-off valve (24) determining the end of pump delivery, characterised in that the plunger (2, 2a) has at least one control edge (36) communicating with the pump chamber and co-operating with an orifice (38) in the pump cylinder wall ; a fuel-filled chamber (70) communicating with the latter orifice (38) is provided in the pump and also communicates by way of a replenishment valve (60) and a control valve (48) with the discharge side (22) of the leak-off valve (24) ; a piston (71) acted on by the latter fuel is disposed in the fuel-filled chamber (70) and so co-operates with the leak-off valve (24) that, when the start of delivery occurs before top dead centre, opens the leak-off valve (24) during the delivery phase when the edge (36) places the pump chamber (7) in communication with the fuel-filled chamber (70) by way of the orifice (38) in the cylinder wall ; and the leak-off valve (24) closes in the delivery phase as a result of the control valve (48) opening.
