[origin: WO8605445A1] Reinforced composites comprise a plastic polymer matrix having a reinforcing agent dispersed throughout the polymer matrix wherein the renforcing agent is coated with an interlayer consisting of a rubber which is compatible with the plastic polymer or is made compatible with the plastic polymer and which is adhered, through chemical bonding, to the reinforcing agent. The elastomeric interlayer serves as a compatibilizing layer between the plastic polymer matrix and the reinforcing agent such that both the reinforcing agent and plastic polymer matrix positively contribute to the properties of the resulting composite and such that the reinforced composites exhibit an unexpectedly superior balance of physical properties to the reinforced, plastic polymer, composite. Moreover, the physical integrity of the reinforcing agent coated with the elastomer is significantly improved.

Des composites renforcés comportent une matrice polymère plastique contenant un agent de renforcement dispersé à travers toute la matrice polymère. L'agent de renforcement est revêtu d'une couche intermédiaire composée d'un caoutchouc qui est compatible avec le polymère plastique ou est rendu compatible avec celui-ci et qui est adhérisé, par liaison chimique, à l'agent de renforcement. La couche intermédiaire d'élastomère sert à rendre compatible la matrice polymère plastique et l'agent de renforcement de sorte que ces derniers comtribuent positivement aux propriétés du composite résultant, et de sorte que les composites renforcés présentent un équilibre de propriétés physiques étonnamment supérieur au composite polymère plastique renforcé. En outre, l'intégrité physique de l'agent de renforcement revêtu de l'élastomère est considérablement améliorée.
