[origin: WO8606828A1] In order to improve the final ballistic performance of an undercalibrated projectile (15) comprised of a penetrator (15b) and a tail unit (16), a portion (15a) of the projectile (15) has a conical shape and is provided into a conical recess (16a) of the tail unit (16). The transversal forces exerted on the tail unit (16) during the penetration into the target material are thus not transmitted to the penetrator (15b), at least in the conical part (15a) of the projectile, thereby preventing the penetrator (15b) from breaking at that point.
