[origin: EP0222218A2] The sheet-metal blank has a tear-off strip (2) running between two predetermined breaking lines (3, 4), these lines (3, 4) extending into the tongue (5). For this purpose, the tongue (5) is made wider than the tear-off strip (2). Thus a can, produced from the blank by welding, can be opened without problem, i.e. without the risk of destroying the tear-off strip just after the weld is broken. <IMAGE>
