[origin: EP0224446A2] The invention disclosed is a hydraulic load limiting device for hydraulic cranes, in which hydraulic valves producing either an on-off (10, 10 min , 10 sec , 41) and/or a switching action (52, 42) are shifted by a pressure signal generated in one of the boom cylinders, thereby setting up a control signal that triggers the operation of hydraulic valves (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, 9) installed on the flow lines connecting with the boom cylinders; such a control signal, which may be relayed either directly or via a hydraulic level-sensing device (25), serves to pilot shut-off of pressure flow to the relative cylinder or cylinders whenever further extension or retraction would cause the boom to assume a configuration such as overloads the crane beyond its maximum rated lift capacity.
