Abstract (en)
Optical fibre 25 is held at its right-hand end in a clamp and at its left-hand end by a pre-tensioning clamp which applies an axial tension to the fibre. A part (27) of the optical fibre from which the buffer and cladding has been removed is held between three cylindrical pins 29 about which a sleeve 30 is crimped which also grips the fibre cladding through a spring 31. <??>The contact formed by the pins 29 is located within an axial opening of a fixed drum support 47 on which is mounted a rotatable drum carrying a cutter blade 68. The cutter blade 68 is inclined to score the fibre at a point slightly recessed between the bevelled ends of pins 29.
