Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0227565A2] The invention relates to a process for printing a material. <??>More specifically, it is concerned with a process by which a material is decorated with a multicoloured design consisting of an association of primary elementary forms, such as any geometrical forms, figures or letters, each having a primary colour, the multicoloured design being produced beforehand on a provisional support from inks capable of being transferred onto the material by heat and pressure. <??>According to the invention, a basic set of coloured sheets is formed by stacking one or more sheets covered on one flat face with sublimable ink, the set comprising at least one sheet of each primary colour of the final multicoloured design, the contours of the elementary forms of the decorative design are formed in relation to the outer contour of the material to be decorated by simultaneous cutting in each sheet of the set, all the sheets then each identically possessing precut zones corresponding to the elementary forms of the final design, the multicoloured decorative design is composed on a provisional support by a superposition and/or juxtaposition of the precut primary elementary forms, the primary elementary forms being taken from the sheet of corresponding primary colour, and the multicoloured design thus composed is transferred from the provisional support onto the material to be decorated, the provisional support and material being kept in intimate contact by pressure, and heating being carried out in such a way that there is a sublimation of the inks and an identified diffusion of the inks in the material.
