[origin: EP0228026A2] A flame resistant upholstery fabric, in particular for car seats, consists of a base fabric woven in a plain weave from a blend yarn composed of a flame resistant aramid and viscose, known as Karvin. The base fabric comprises a base warp and a comparatively loosely interwoven cover warp. To form the pile, pure wool has been interwoven in the warp direction as a pile yarn with loop formation to at least 1 mm in height. Alternatively, the base fabric can consist of a blend yarn composed of a flame resistant aramid and viscose and encompass a loosely woven base warp and a tightly interwoven cover warp. In this case the pile is formed by interweaving 100% mohair as a pile thread in the warp direction to a tuft height of at least 3 mm.
