Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0231007A2] The push button contains an electro-optic indicating unit (2) by means of which different symbols can be displayed. When used in a keyboard, the push button can be used, for example, for the input of German, Greek or Arabic texts. The electro-optic display element (2), preferably a liquid crystal display, is mounted on a key base (1) which is simultaneously used as a guide for a key cap (4). The upper part (8) of the key cap (4) is transparent and preferably non- reflective, and is designed as a magnifying lens so that the symbol displayed in each case on the push button can easily be identified. Due to the arrangement of the display unit (2) on the key base (1), there is no need for a flexible connection between the key base (1) and the key cap (4). <IMAGE>
