Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0231520A1] 1. A method for the attachment of a new strip in a continuous casting plant of the type comprising an intermediate container (tundish 2) for the liquid metal (11) to be cast having a discharge opening (4) with closure means (5) in its bottom, a chilled continuous casting mold (3) arranged under the discharge opening (4) and defining a mold inlet (6), a mold cavity (8) and a lower mold outlet (7), as well as, if necessary, an immersion tube disposed between discharge opening (4) and casting mold (3) and projecting into the mold cavity (8), in which (method) the mold outlet (7) is at least substantially closed temporarily, and after the opening of the closure means (5), by solidification of the liquid metal (11) flowed out of the discharge opening, a connection is established to the end of a cold billet (12) being provided with connecting means, whereupon the cold billet (12) is drawn off together with the attached strip, characterized in that, as connection means, a hollow attachement coupling (14) is used being securable at the end (18) of the cold billet, open at the top and at least largely closed, the cross-sectional shape of its side being similar to the cross-sectional contour of the mold cavity (8), and that the mold outlet (7) is essentially closed by means of this attachment coupling (14).
