[origin: US4786330A] A sizing agent for paper consisting essentially of a latex consisting essentially of at least one diurethane dispersed in an aqueous medium, said diurethane being of the formula: <IMAGE> in which: (a) R1, R2, R5 and R6 are each alkyl radicals and at least one of them possesses a minimum of 7 carbon atoms; (b) R7 and x represent, respectively, the cationic and anionic portions of the quaternizing agent R7x; (c) R3 and R4 are selected from C2-C4 alkylene radicals or polyalkoxylated radicals of a degree of polycondensation of between 1 an 4; and (d) Y is <IMAGE> The process of making the sizing agent and using it to size paper are also disclosed.

Agent de collage pour l'industrie papetière à base d'uréthanne cationique caractérisé en ce qu'il se présente sous la forme de latex de diuréthanne de formule: <IMAGE> dans laquelle: R1, R2, R5 et R6 représentent des radicaux alkyles et au moins l'un d'entre eux possède au minimum 7 atomes de carbone, R7 et x représentent respectivement le reste cationique et l'anion de l'agent quaternisant R7 x, R3 et R4 représentent des radicaux alkylène en C2-C4 ou polyoxyalkyléniques de degré de polycondensation compris entre 1 et 4 Y représente l'un des deux groupements aryles suivants: <IMAGE> Ce produit est obtenu par dispersion dans l'eau sous forme de latex du produit de réaction du toluène diisocyanate ou du diphénylméthane diisocyanate sur deux N dialkylalcanolamines.
